Eastern Sunrise, A Great Sail, & Acadia!

The first adventure back in the U.S. was to go to the easternmost town in the U.S.--Lubec, Maine, and of course we camped in the easternmost campground in the U.S. at Sunset Point.
We had a great lobster dinner at the restaurant on the wharf.
In the morning we went to Quody Point, the farthest East point in the U.S. and were among a handful of people to be the first to see the sun rise in the U.S. on September 3, 2015!
Then it was a quick drive to Campobello, an island just over the bridge from Lubec in New Brunswick, Canada. We drove around the island, had breakfast at a lighthouse, and did a quick tour of Roosevelt's summer house.
Then we headed to Mount Desert Island, Maine, where we were staying the night at a shipyard. Kate's cousin, Pete, bought a "new" 51 ft sailboat and we were invited on a sail!
We had a lovely dinner with Kate's cousin Pete, his parents Anne and Pete, his granddaughter, Bella, and the owner of the shipyard, Jock, and his family. In the morning we eagerly awaited the sail!
The sail was in Somes Sound, the only fjord in North America, and was a highlight of the trip! It is a beautiful boat. There were 7 of us on board.

Kate took the helm for a while when Pete was working on unfurling the sail.
It was a great afternoon! Great sail, warm weather, nice people! In the evening we headed to Acadia National Park and our campsite in Seawall campground. But first it was a stop for lobster rolls at Thurston's!
The next morning we took a walk to the sound.
Karolyn and I walked to Ship Harbor Point.
We had fresh salmon for dinne--caught that morning! So good!!
We had a different campsite on the other side of Acadia park for the next 2 days in Blackwoods campground. On the way we walked to the lighthouse for photos!
In the morning there was a great sunrise!
Karolyn and I walked along the ocean.
We all drove to Jordon Pond and had great popovers.
We hiked about 3 hours to Thunder Hole where the waves enter a crevice in the rocks.
Great views!
Ragusa rose was so pretty--some with blossoms and some with rose hips.
It was then time to head back to Connecticut and get Kate back to work. We stopped in Bar Harbor on our way out. We also stopped in the town of Wells, Maine, so Kate could pose for a photo (Kate's last name is Wells).
We stopped for more fresh salmon and arrived in time for a lovely sunset at Salsbury Beach state park in Massachusetts.
And a nice sunrise the next morning.
Kate got home to Deep River, Connecticut, and Karolyn and I camped at Hammomasset state park in Madison CT on the Long Island Sound. The weather was warm and we went swimming and enjoyed some beach time.
We enjoyed a sunset over the water.
We had one more lobster roll from Connecticut made with butter and it was so good! We got some produce from the stand across the street. Karolyn 's last night with me was spent at Southwick Acres campground close to the Hartford airport. She had a 6 am flight, and barely made it! But off she went back to California!
